I have been tutoring English as a Second Language to adult Central American immigrants for several months, and it has been an absolutely incredible experience. One story sticks out in my mind in particular.
A few months ago, I was going over the word "have" with the individual that I tutor. To give a few examples, I said, "I have clothing. I have a book. I have a pencil..." Then I asked the individual I was working with, "What do you have?" He paused. At first, I thought that he didn't understand the word, but then I realized he was thinking. Finally, he responded, "I have my life. That's all I have."
And I suddenly realized how much I, as a college student, take advantage of going about my everyday life that so many other people can only dream of having.
