In Chautauqua, the Andersons volunteer and support the Chautauqua Institution, a multi-faceted cultural organization. In Arizona, Sun Health, Interfaith and Habitat for Humanity are just a few of the non-profit organizations they have chosen to support with both their time and resources. Ilse Bolster is multilingual in German, English, French and Spanish. Ilse enjoyed opportunities that exposed her to many foreign visitors. She taught German to American officers preparing for in-country occupation during World War II and perfected a “total immersion” technique of language education for immigrants that other teachers applauded and adopted.
